Matali Crasset has created Hi Matic Hotel in collaboration with Patrick Elouarghi and Philippe Chatelet, where visitors check-in, order food and exchange tips on the city with other guests via the hotel’s online system and a plethora of screens throughout the building. The HI matic hotel allows guests to choose and change music in the public areas, collaborate on an ever-evolving city guide and collect meals from an automatic machine in the restaurant. 42 rooms are spread over five floors, envisioned as cabins where the specially designed furniture systems can change function throughout the day as required.

Waterhead Hotel @ Ambleside, UK

The Waterhead hotel in the English Lake District allows its guests to stuffs of the rooms they stay in.

Situated on the shores of Lake Windermere near Ambleside, the Waterhead aims to “offer an experience to all our guests that can be as individual as you are,” in the hotel’s own words. Toward that end, nine categories of room amenities can be customized to suit guests’ tastes. In artwork, for instance, there’s a choice of five different artists. Clarins, Thierry Mugler, Keiji and L’Occitane are the choices for toiletries, while teapot options include a “bathtub and rubber duck” model along with three other quirky styles. Candles, flowers, pillows, sweets, fruit and an arrival drink can also be specified. Meanwhile, preloaded digital picture frames are on hand to help hotel guests feel at home from the moment they arrive. Room rates at the Waterhead hotel begin at GBP 275 for a bed-and-breakfast overnight stay.

“Launched in April, the website invites homeowners to list their gardens as potential campsites for travelers passing through the local vicinity. Gardens are listed with along with a short description and details of facilities available such as showers, power points, wifi connectivity, barbecues and parking. Garden owners can also list what shops and public transport links there are nearby, list the dates their gardens are available to camp in, and specify how much it will cost one person to stay on site per night. Visitors searching for a campsite can then browse for gardens by location, or select an event they are planning to attend and browse for gardens nearby. Once a user has signed up free of charge to become part of the Campinmygarden.com community, applications to stay at a garden can be made through the website. Reviews of gardens from other members can be read on the website, and each member can set up a profile for other users to see where they have stayed.”

In Sassello, Ponzini’s family has a big garden. I could think about it!

www.homeexchange.com

“Home Exchange is the vacation alternative where you stay in my house and I stay in yours.
There are two types of exchanges: home exchange and hospitality exchange.
Home exchangers trade their homes, condominiums or apartments at a time that is convenient to both parties, but these are not the only types of accommodations that one gets to choose from. For example, one exchanger traded his home for a 40-foot yacht. Another couple swapped their villa in Italy for a RV in Oregon because they had always wanted to tour the U.S. in true nomadic style. Often, home exchangers will include their automobiles as part of the package.

Hospitality exchangers, on the other hand, host each other in their homes at designated times. Your home exchange partners stay with you as guests and then you go and stay with them as their guests. There is a social aspect to this kind of exchange that some exchangers particularly enjoy. Conceivably, you also get a built-in tour guide with this mode of exchange.”

“Luxe Home Swap allows people with high-end dwellings to swap accommodation with others all over the world.
“Luxe” homes don’t necessarily have to be luxurious, UK-based Luxe Home Swap stresses; rather, they simply need an attractive location and home feel. Examples currently on the site include a 5-bedroom, 5-bath home in Sri Lanka, for example, as well as a 2-bedroom apartment in Gothenburg, Sweden. To use the service, homeowners simply pay a GBP 99 annual membership fee and begin browsing the homes listed on the site. Once they find one they’d like to swap with, they contact the owner to discuss the details via secure messaging and sign a digital contract. Members can make as many swaps as they’d like over the course of a year; Luxe Home Swap even offers a second year of membership free for those who didn’t succeed to find a good swap in their first.”
